Aqeel Al Zarooni is the Director of Airworthiness at the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the United Arab Emirates. He is responsible for the development and implementation of the broad Airworthiness strategy and maintaining high aviation safety standards in line with ICAO SARPs and GCAA rules.
Aqeel has an extensive technical expertise in the aviation industry and he is the chairman of Airworthiness Consultative committee in the UAE and a current member of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Airworthiness Panel.
Aqeel holds an MBA degree on Aviation Management from Coventry University and graduated from the UAE Future Leadership program.
Aqeel began his Aviation career with Emirates Airline in 1992 as a Licensed Aircraft Engineer and was later moved to the position of Manager Regional Outstations Engineering. He joined the GCAA in 2010 as Director Foreign Operators where he spearheaded the implementation of the SAFA program in the UAE. In 2013, he took on the responsibility of Director Licensing and since 2014 he is heading the Airworthiness department at GCAA.
